What's in a name?

Nverse Architects

Starting your own architectural practice is exciting and daunting. It takes a leap of faith- an attribute not inherently part of my DNA. Fortunately, I spent nearly 20 years working for two of the best architects practicing today [Duda|Paine]. The lessons I learned were not just about design, but about working with people in constructive and meaningful ways. I also discovered that the answers to complicated problems are rarely obvious. The design process is iterative, constantly zooming in and out to evaluate solutions.

In thinking about the name of the firm, I wanted to capture the essence of that process. The idea of "inverse" resounded with me. It implies a contrarian position, to look beyond the conspicuous. I look forward to building firm grounded in these principles and to contribute meaningful architecture to the world around me.

"Inversion is a powerful tool to improve your thinking because it helps you identify and remove obstacles to success. The root of inversion is “invert,” which means to upend or turn upside down. As a thinking tool it means approaching a situation from the opposite end of the natural starting point. Most of us tend to think one way about a problem: forward. Inversion allows us to flip the problem around and think backward. Sometimes it’s good to start at the beginning, but it can be more useful to start at the end."
